Odessa’s history

Odessa is a village in southeastern Saskatchewan, about 60 km southeast of Regina on Highway 48, within the Rural Municipality of Francis No. 127. It incorporated as a village on March 14, 1911.

Today the village is best known for its sports. It has an ice hockey arena, grass and dirt ball diamonds, and an indoor gymnasium at the community centre. Local teams play hockey, broomball and baseball, and the Odessa Bandits have won national championships in junior broomball, in 1998 and 2009. The Odessa Eagles have also taken several SCMHL midget titles, in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Local businesses include the Odessa Co-op, a welding and machine shop, an electrical contractor, a manufacturing firm, a credit union branch and an SGI branch.
